Flash Lite Player 2 Now Available
I wanted to let everyone know that we are releasing the Flash Lite Player 2 “early” to enable developers and enthusiasts to begin playing with Flash Lite 2 over the holidays.

This is in anticipation of releasing more "preview release" developer materials in January via Adobe Labs to support Flash Lite 2 development. These other materials will include:
  • an updated publishing profile for Flash Lite 2 content
  • an update to the mobile emulator in Flash Professional 8 for testing Flash Lite 2 content
  • documentation (APIs)
  • sample files
  • other resources and benefits
You can purchase an IMEI locked version of the player through the Adobe online store for $10 USD for the following supported Nokia handsets: 3230, 6260, 6620, 6630, 6670, 6680, 6681, 6682, 7610, N70, and N90.

Just so you know, you won't be able to publish any Flash Lite 2 content until we release the rest of the Flash Lite 2 developer bits in January but you can view any of the existing Flash Lite 1.1 content available in the Adobe Flash Lite Exchange or create your own Flash Lite 1.1 content. Over the next two weeks if I have some time I may post some Flash Lite 2 content for you to download and check out.

If you have any questions leave a comment and I'll reply.

Hi Bill,

that's really good news. However I'd like to ask about the Nokia 6600. Although it's not listed as a supported device, I'd like to know if it's really impossible to make the new player run on it. I'm asking you because I think that in the past, not-listed devices could actually run the 1.1 FL player (i.e. Nokia 7650)

Thanks a lot, willing to start playing with it soon :)

nice news :)

thanks,

Ditto the 6600 question, otherwise I need a new phone for Christmas :O)

This might be a dumb question, but how can we play with it if we can only publish 1.1 content? Have I heard wrong, or can it run Flash 7 files?

By Anonymous Peter Strømberg , at Thu Dec 22, 12:29:00 AM PST

What is happening with the Pocket PC Player? Is there going to be parity with a move to the Flash 7 codebase soon, along the lines of Flashlite 2.0? It's been an incredibly long time between updates for the Pocket PC/Smartphone platform. Is this a dead platform for Adobe/MM?

Any info on SVG support in Flash Lite 2.0?

By Blogger Jeff Schiller , at Thu Dec 22, 01:19:00 PM PST

Really good news, looking forward to make some developpement in flash lite 2.0 and i can't wait to see some nice video on my mobile !
But i've a sonyCie phone, any chance to have a flash player for them also, i already have flash player lite 1.1 will it be updatable ?

Cheers,
Ahmet

Hi Bill,

How about Flash Lite 2.0 for Nokia N-Gage QD? because I allready bought this handset for testing all my Flash Lite 1.1 application.

So buying a new handset to test FL 2.0 is not a good option :(

H

Thanks Bill, my girlfriend will really love you when I tell her I have a new toy to play with. Also on a serious note, can Adobe do anything about the lack of info Nokia give about flashlite on their phones, they dont even mention flash in their tech details ie nothing on their new "e" series when you look at the w900i it actually states it has the flashlite player, and who do you think should be responsible for educating the phone users about flashlite and its capabilities? A lot of people recognise Java and what it can do for a phone but without a big branding exercise will people start asking for flash content? I have spoken to the operators at various trade fairs etc and they say when they are sked for the content they will provide it !! I'd like to go on but I guess this isnt the right place, hope you and everyone else has a graet Christmas ...here's to a very exciting 2006!

Sounds great!

I would really like the know the prospects of Motorola International getting interested in bringing flash into their class of handsets.

Not to be outdone, i forewent Razor for the fabulous E815 and i am not discouraged one iota. This mobile series is Spectacular, video, mp3, wireless internet, voice command and acknowledgment, ALL ON IMMEDIATE DEMAND!! ..plus theres much more, BUT!! i think it would do a great service to initiate Flash content on it.
Wake Up Moto!! Flash it!!

By Blogger JOSEPHS , at Sun Dec 25, 10:32:00 PM PST

OK, catching up on replys from people:

1) Current supported handsets are listed.

2) You should be able to run SWF files that are published as FP7 however certain features and AS may not work. Just to be clear that we will be releasing updated bits for publishing Flash Lite 2 in January.

3) There is currently a beta for SDK7 and I can't comment on any specifics to release dates for any players. If we do announce anything it will be via press releases on the Adobe site.

4) You can not update a Flash Lite Player 1.1 to a Flash Lite Player 2.

5) 2006 will be a great year for Flash Lite content and developers. With the release of the Flash Lite Player 2 and developer bits in January I expect a lot of great content from everyone.

6) Only Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung are licensees of Flash technologies.

Has somebody tried to run flash lite 2.0 on 6600? Does it work?

By Anonymous Anonymous , at Sat Jan 07, 04:29:00 AM PST

No it will not work.

By Blogger Bill , at Sun Jan 08, 12:10:00 AM PST

Hi Bill,

Unfortunately the Macromedia Online Store in Asia Pacific doesn't seem to sell the Flashlite Player 2.0. I am doing some on-going development work with Flashlite 1.1 & wish to upgrade to Flashlite 2.0.
Please let me know if you can help me get a copy of the latest player. I can pay you for the cost of it. Many thanks.

Touch screen /stylus and keypad input methods are supported in flash lite.My question is
Whether voice input ( speech recognition ) is supported in flash lite 2 player ?

By Anonymous Anonymous , at Mon Nov 06, 01:40:00 AM PST

voice recognition is not supported with Flash Lite 2.x.

By Blogger Bill , at Mon Nov 06, 06:59:00 PM PST

Hi Bill,

Could you please recommend a third-party tool or software for voice recognition in windows mobile 5.0 ppc device.

Thanks

on(release)
{
myMessage = "sms:4156095555?body=sample sms message";
getURL(myMessage);
}

The above code implemented in windows mobile invokes the windows sending sms ( Text Messages sending) functionality.

Is there any function ( other than getURL() function ) to send sms using flash lite 2.0 ?

Please help me? Thanks

I'm having real issues trying to purchase Flash Lite Player. I'm entering my IMEI number into the system, selecting N70 and ticking the box but i'm getting an error message that says "An error has occurred. Please try again."

Any ideas?

By Anonymous dracnath , at Wed Nov 15, 12:07:00 PM PST

Hi Bill,
I've been developing apps for flash lite 1 quite successfully - with all limitations. Now, working with flash lite 2.0, especially the possibility to play *.3gp movies is perfect! Alas, it never works on my mobile (Nokia 6630) - not even the flash-tutorials! Any suggestions, maybe?
Thanks,
*Ron

Are you embedding your video clip into your SWF file, referring to it outside of your SWF file or streaming it from a server? I'll be posting some sample FLA files on my site this week to help you and others with this.

By Blogger Bill , at Wed Nov 29, 09:11:00 AM PST

You can email mobiledeveloper at adobe dot com and request a free Flash Lite player.

By Blogger Bill , at Wed Nov 29, 09:11:00 AM PST

You can also try this:

getURL("sms:555-1212?body=More info please");

By Blogger Bill , at Wed Nov 29, 09:15:00 AM PST

Sorry, I don't know of any 3rd party tools for voice recognition. You can search Google or take a look at some PPC user sites.

HI Bill!
I have a Sony-Ericsson P990. Does it support Flash lite? If so, where can i get or buy one? THanks.

By Anonymous Anonymous , at Mon Dec 18, 09:42:00 PM PST

Nope, the SE P990 doesn't support Flash.

By Blogger Bill , at Mon Dec 18, 10:45:00 PM PST

does anyone know why clocks that i have made using flash mx 2004 will not work on my phone even tho they are swf files.the clocks work with the computer clock but not with my nokia 6131 mobile phone, just get blank screen.I want to incorporate clocks into my mobile phone themes.

By Anonymous Anonymous , at Tue Jan 30, 12:03:00 PM PST

are you publishing your SWF file as Flash Lite 2.0 or 2.1?

By Blogger Bill , at Tue Jan 30, 02:28:00 PM PST

I have tryed to publish it as a fash lite 1.1 which i know my phone supports but then when i save it as that i get errors in the script and the whole thing wont work at all then.Do you think the actionscript has to be differant for content being made for mobile phone like the get time get date ect

By Anonymous Anonymous , at Wed Jan 31, 02:32:00 AM PST

in fact in the error message it says that in order to make this file work you must publish as a flash 5 player or above but thats when it wont work for phone. Mobile phone wont run flash 5 content needs to be flash lite 1.1. I know there must be a way because i can download clock themes that other people have made but i wanted to mke my own with my own style.

Hi,

Im trying to test flash lite content for the Nokia 6288.

Is it possible to install flash lite 2.0 on this device?

Is there a flash 8 device emulator available anywhere for this. If not is it possible to create custom device settings?

thanks,

Hi Bill

can I try to install FL 2.0 on my nokia 6131?
It supports FL 1.1...will it support FL 2.0?

cheers

By Anonymous Anonymous , at Tue Apr 17, 01:43:00 PM PDT

Sorry, you can't install the FL2.1 player on the Nokia 6131 because it's a Series 40 OS handset. The FL2.1 player update is for Nokia S60 handsets.

Hi Bill,

I have been using/testing flash lite on my cell phone Nokia 6630 and it was working fine until this past Friday. I got this error message "Flash player: invalid license". I don't get this. can you help me please?

By Anonymous Anonymous , at Mon Jul 09, 04:00:00 PM PDT

If you're having problems with the FL1.1 player you installed on your Nokia 6630, you should uninstall it and install the free FL2.1 standalone player: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=flashlite2_1_symbian_download
