How to Install the Flash Player 7 for Pocket PC
Several people have contacted me about having difficulties installing the Flash Player 7 for Pocket PC onto their devices. Unlike the FP6 for PPC which was a desktop .exe file, the FP7 for PPC is a CAB file that can be installed directly on your PPC.

Here's what you need to do:

1) Uninstall the FP6 from your PPC
2) Remove the FP6 for PPC installer from ActiveSync
3) Restart your PPC
4) Copy the FP7 for PPC CAB file to your PPC
5) Double click the CAB file to install directly onto your PPC
6) View SWF content ;o)

Hi bill,
I have a question for you.
This installer ".cab" allow me to execute directly a SWF file ?
Because I canīt do it.

Regards..

I would suggest right clicking on the .cab file and making it read-only, that way, you get to 'keep' it and not have it disappear.

Yup, im also looking for how to view content, so does it work inside a browser, if so which browsers did it install to, or is it a standalone player similar to FlashLite, can we have some info please.

thanks

The installer looks like it worked, but no FLASH PLayer application or association with .swf files gets created.

How do we actually "view" .swf files?

Thanks

hello to all. i am trying to install
Macromedia Flash Player 7 for Pocket PC. The ppc is a dell axim x51v using microsoft windows mobile version 5.0
( os 5.1.70 ). from this url address
http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer_pocketpc/downloads/player.html
i have downloaded the zipped file (fp7_ppc_en). Inside the zipped file are three files ( 000flash.001, 000setup.999, active~1.000 ). i have copied all files onto the ppc. what do i do now?

By Anonymous anthony , at Tue Apr 18, 07:47:00 PM PDT

you don't unzip file on your desktop, just copy it to your Dell and double tap the CAB file and it will install the FP7 for PPC directly.

thanks bill. that worked perfect!

I installed Flash Player 7 on my Sprint (UtStarcom/Audiovox) PPC-6700 and everything seemed right but when I use Internet Explorer to try to go on www.myspace.com, the page loads and then I get an error message that pops up. Does anyone know the fix to that?

[Q1] The installer looks like it worked, but no FLASH PLayer application or association with .swf files gets created. How do we actually "view" .swf files?
[A1] When you install the FP7 for PPC it is installed as an ActiveX control for Pocket IE. Youw can view SWF files that are either embedded in an HTML page or view the SWFs directly by opening them from Pocket IE.

[A2] Do you have the FP6 for PPC installed? If so uninstall it first. Restart your device and then make sure you copy over to your Dell the file you downoaded from the site. Double clicking the file should initiate the installation process for the FP7 for PPC.

Thanks SO much for explaining how to apply the flash cab to the PPC. I can now play my swf files on my WM5 i-mate JASJAR !
To play the files I either open them in pocket IE or create html "stub" files for each swf file.
eg. PPCFlash.htm
< html>
< body>
< object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"
width="640" height="480" >
< param name=movie value="myfilename.swf">
< /object>
< /body>
< /html>
I just replace "myfilename" with the swf filename.

I have installed the cab file on my Qtek 9000 and it say's installation complete, but when I qo to websites with flash content all i see is flash player required to view this content please download flash player. I have reinstalled but it never actually lets my view any flash in my pocket ie browser. Any solutions for my HTC Universal/Qtek 9000?

By Anonymous chris , at Tue Sep 05, 11:02:00 PM PDT

The reason you may not be able to view Flash content on certain web sites is because the SWF files were published as Flash 8 or 9. The ActiveX plug-in for Flash Player 7 will only display SWF files that are published as Flash 7 or lower.

Hi Bill,
i have a motorola q and i drag the fp7 .cab file on 2 my phone but when i try 2 install it say "Installation of fp7_ppc_en.CAB was unsuccessful. The installation file is not intended for this device" what the problem?

p.s. anyone with some info on the issue can respond!!!!

The Moto Q is a Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone OS device. You won't be able to use the Flash Player 7 for PPC installer on this device. What you can do is download and install the Flash Lite 2.1 for Windows Mobile 5.0 preview release, available on Adobe Labs (http://labs.adobe.com).

Hi!

I thought with Flash Player 7 installed on an i-mate Jasjar - I could go to "any" web-page using flash and browse and look at the animation, etc. Isn't it so ? Does it depend on how the web-site is made ? Tell me more about this. Also - any tips about web-pages that is mainly made for PC browsing, and requiring for instance Flash 8 - how to browse those on PDA..when only Flash 7 is released - Thank you! :)

By Anonymous Puzzlemind , at Mon Nov 13, 07:51:00 AM PST

///Puzzlemind - the Flash Player 7 for PPC that you have installed on your device is an ActiveX plug-in for Pocket IE. It allows Pocket IE to render any SWF file that's embedded in an HTML page that was published as Flash 7 or earlier. If Pocket IE encounters a web page that has a SWF file that was published as Flash 8 or 9, then Pocket IE won't be able to render it. This will result in a blank rectangular area within the HTML page where the SWF file would normally be displayed.

When a Flash designer/developer publishes a SWF file they can specify which version of Flash to publish for. Depending on the features and ActionScript they're using it may require to be published as Flash 8 or 9.

Hi Bill,
I've downloaded and installed flash player 2.1. I also did that with macromedia activeX so I should be covered right? Well, I still cannot access certain sites that use flash player 7.0. I know I cant access sites that use version 8 or 9 but 7 should work. Could you help me?

By Anonymous Anonymous , at Thu Dec 07, 04:34:00 AM PST

Hi Bill,
Can you access sites that use flash player 7 but instead of swf it uses sps.
example:http://www.mariasharapova.com/defaultflash.sps
Is it possible to enter sites like these?

Bill,
I can see that this has been hashed out a few times. After reading all the comments I am still have an issue with the flash player install. I am using a T-mobile Wing, and can not figure out how to install the 3 files (Active, 000setup,000flash) that downloaded to the desktop of my computer. Could you please go into the specific details on how to make the process work of installing the flash program for the computer impaired?
Thanks

Mike

By Anonymous Anonymous , at Mon Nov 05, 11:30:00 AM PST

Hey mike, the reason you cannot install it is because those files have been extracted from the cab file. copy the whole cab file onto your device and then run it.

hi. i have tried to install it and it says its "not intended for this device" even though i have a pocket pc. what do i do?
