Nokia S60 3rd Edition Handsets to Ship with Flash Lite 1.1
You might have heard about upcoming handsets from Nokia that will ship with Flash Lite 1.1 pre-installed on them. The first S60 3rd edition devices will be the following:
As each of these handsets become available to market I'll be promoting them on my blog as well as offering some specific tips for creating Flash Lite 1.1 content because of the different screen sizes and orientations.

Labels: , ,

Why aren't these devices shipping with Flash Lite 2.0? They have all the capabilities to support 2.0 features?

Is some lame-o executive or lawyer holding things up or what?

It takes time for an OEM to implement Flash on a device. My guess is that you can expect to wait atleast 6-9 months or even a year before an OEM gets everyting together to release a Flash enabled device.

At the time Nokia licensed Flash, back in January 2005, Flash Lite 1.1 was the only version available. Flash Lite 2.0 just came out of beta at the beginning of March 2006. So you might realisticly expect to find Flash Lite 2.0 devices on market 6-9 months or a year from when it came out of beta.

Why don't any of the nokia specs (or the specs on the S60.com site) list the Flash player?

How soon will these phones, e61 in particular, be upgradable to fl 2?

I don't get it Bill. Macromedia made itself thanks to the free Flash player on the internet and they now charge for Flash Lite 2.0 and prevent us (developers) to release it with our apps. We could be great vectors for you if we could somehow integrate the Flash Player in our installers. I don't mind having to give some $ with my software to adobe, but they should let us distribute it. Do they expect at adobe that people will go into their Flash Lite 2 page by millions to equip all their S60 phones with the player ? Someone has got to tell them that they are dreaming. Meantime, we will go for J2ME developments. This makes more sens.
Sorry Bill, but am I missing something here ? Maybe there is actually a way to distribute the FL2.0 already. If so, please post it on your site.

I just bought a N80 that I like very much, I am flash developer and wondering if there will be a way to upgrade or downlad flash Lite 2.x on my phone ?
I see you can download it for N70 and N90 but not N80.
Cheers,
Philippe

Currently we don't have any FL2.0 developer players for Nokia S60 3rd edition devices available, however we're working on it.
