Yep, the headline isn't a typo. This past Wednesday during the mobile & solutions portion of the Adobe financial analyst meeting we shared that by 2010 we expect over 1 billion Flash enabled devices to be in market. As you can see from the graphic above, there's a steady trend of increasing handsets shipping with Flash technologies pre-installed. There's also a lot of other good information and details about Adobe's mobile and solutions available for you to watch or download.

"Adobe Addressable" - interesting choice of caption, does this just mean devices which could have Flash (but may well not have)? I can't see any other explanation for the size of the 2003 figures, for example... the rest all seem high too, would be interesting to see the data behind this. I think it would look different if you took out the devices which in theory could get Flash but don't, and the devices which have it but not in a useful form (eg. Samsung D600, eg. all the many Japanese devices which have it in the browser but you can't use the arrow keys and files must be <30Kb etc).

The 2003 figure is based on handset shipments in Japan and Europe, which had the Flash Player 5 on a few Motorola handset models for Hutchinson 3G network. The data is from research reports by strategy analytics.
"Useful form" is a subjective statement. From an OEM standpoint having Flash used for the UI is a good thing and for them is useful. From an operator standpoint having Flash used for the UI and solutions is a useful thing. From a developer standpoint having Flash used for rendering SWF files and selling SWF content is a useful thing. From a consumer standpoint having Flash installed to allow the viewing of web sites that have SWF content in them or for purchasing/downloading playing games and applications is a useful thing.
We're working on providing more developer relevant info for developers so they understand what is the addressable market for them in terms of devices, and content creation opportunities.

Wonder when Adobe will break down these numbers into area location and version of the player, because you know, not everybody lives in Japan and has version 1.1

This is amazing news. I believe it though, and Adobe is in for a major rise in their stock prices.
