If you haven't already heard we've announced our upcoming MAX 2007 conferences - which are Adobe's annual designer/developer conferences. This year we'll have three conferences around the world to allow creative professionals, students and hobbyists to hear from speakers who are very knowledgeable with a wide range of topics including Flash Lite, Flash Cast, AIR, Flex, Flash, Dreamweaver, Premiere, etc... This year will be my 6 MAX US conference and I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone who is interested in developing mobile Flash applications/content as well as hearing from other speakers on what cool things they've been working on.
Here are the dates and locations of the MAX conferences:
For the US conference we currently have the following mobile related sessions scheduled:
- 20 Tricks to Improve Flash Lite Development
- Creating Flash Cast Channels for Verizon Wireless
- Creating Flash Lite Multiplayer Games
- Designing for Mobile Experiences
- Flash Lite 3 Development
- From Desktop to Mobile: New Revenue Opportunities
- Introduction to Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium
- Introduction to Flash Lite 2
As the US conference date gets closer we'll be finalizing these sessions and speakers. For the other two regional MAX conferences we're putting together a list of topics to cover but if you plan on attending these and would like to see a specific mobile topic covered, please let me know by leaving a comment here.

Hi Andrea, the sessions aren't finalized yet but will be soon. Is there a specific FL topic you were interested in having covered?

Ok Bill.
I think users need more Flash Lite topics for the development of "real" contents,
contents on which the developer can make money through services or in the mobile content ecosystem. Yes, Flash Cast is a topic very interesting, but how many developers can approach the Flash Cast development? Flash Lite 2.x is fantastic, but now how many final customers can buy and use a Flash Lite 2.x content? So I suggest more topics for FL 1.1 (in the market a developer has devices S60, S40 and SE with this player now):
- Develop contents to personalize mobile phones and mobile devices (UI, themes, screensaver, wallpaper, etc.)
- Develop games for mobile phones and porting them to Wii, PSP, etc.
- Develop FL1.1 and FL2.0 scaleable applications and services
- Porting a Flash Lite content (the same content)to S60, Brew, etc.
More concrete useful sessions :) with Flash Lite 2.x, Flash Cast and Flash Lite 3 (the future)topics. This is my opinion.
If you want more details, you have my e-mail address ;) Ciao Bill

I'm very happy to see the "Creating Flash Cast Channels for Verizon Wireless". That's going to be a big one for the US audience. :)

I agree with Andrea, you shouldnt ignore FL1.1 as it has the largest penetration, and it is a great intro to flashlite content for the paying client and consumer,

The US conference seems very focused on Flex, LiveCycle and ColdFusion (CF?? who still uses that).
Where's the hardcore AS3 classes? Flash CS3? Flash Lite 3? This conference all seems very enterprise-oriented. I'm not sure I'll recommend that my agency sends anyone this year.

It's funny that people want more 1.1 content this year. I delivered pretty much the only 1.1 related topic at last year's MAX and found it very hard to compete for interest with the other 2.0 / ecosystem topics. And let's face it, there's nothing tricky about creating 1.1 content - there's more to be educated on with 2.x and 3.0, so why not focus on that? Just my opinion speaking from experience.

I agree Dale. The conference is about future technologies. There is plenty of info online from 3 years of using FL 1.1. As long as FL 1.1 is mentioned in the making money session, then that should surfice.

Hi,
It isn’t funny. Now it is a necessity. I too delivered many 1.1 topics in the last two years, and I agree with you that once there was much more interest in 2.0 or 2.x topics. Many developers got acquainted with Flash Lite last year with Flash Lite 2.x (easier, faster, more attractive, more “Flash”…), because more similar to Flash 7/8 (AS, development approach, etc.). But only last time they understood that to make business (“real” business) the Flash Lite 1.1 content has more penetration, device support vs. java contents. Obviously, creating 1.1 content it’s no so attractive because it’s not simple… we have many limits and difficulties. I think that it’s very important to be educated on Flash Lite 2.x and 3.0 to give continuity to the technology and increase ecosystem and developers’ level/skills. But I think that the market now needs more and more high quality contents “on” the market for the final consumers. How many final consumers know Flash Lite contents and how many know Java contents? Only in EMEA market we have approximately 85 Flash Lite embedded devices with different functions, only 12 are FL2.x. This is just my opinion arising from years of mobile experience (5 of Flash Lite).
I think that Max will have to educate for present and future.

Just a final note from me on FlashLite 1.1. I believe that 1.1 is still currently the future! as there is so little people using it, may be it will be leapfrogged by FL3 (I was talking to a Motorola business development manager last week who said that the UIQ Z8 would have FL3 preinstalled next year)so that is still probably a year away So whilst it is great to talk about FL2.x and 3 nobody is going to make any money from creating content in it because there isnt enough penetration, at least with 1.1 there is a viable argument to produce some great content now for a signficant amount of very popular phones. In the uk there are always 3 or 4 of the top ten best selling phones that has 1.1 or 2.x preinstalled, If you just looked at 2.x then it would probably only be 1 out of 10. So go to your clients and say look 30-40% of all best selling phones have flashlite preinstalled and convince them to give you budget! thats what I've done and it's starting to work!:-)
Cheers
