Sony Ericsson S500i - Flash Lite Themes
If you haven't yet seen the Sony Ericsson S500i handset and the cool Flash Lite themes it supports then you can watch this video I put together.

It shows how Sony Ericsson is using Flash Lite for creating Flash Lite themes and it's one of the best examples I've seen of an OEM using Flash to creative innovative experiences for their handsets. The S500i comes with 3 Flash Lite themes pre-installed and they're based on Flash Lite 1.1. Besides supporting Flash Lite themes you can also create your own Flash Lite wallpapers and screensavers. It's a GSM based handset and is available world-wide and you can get more information here.

If you have additional questions about how Flash Lite is used on the S500i leave them here.

Bill, thanks for taking the time to put this together.

Really nice video. Thanks.

Bill, is there any sound to accompany this experience?

I couldn't tell ... but perhaps this was disabled?

By Anonymous Scott Janousek , at Sun Nov 11, 06:16:00 PM PST

I meant sound with the UI.

By Anonymous Scott Janousek , at Sun Nov 11, 06:18:00 PM PST

So, I take it the lights feature can be disabled. Correct? I think I saw it in the UI (would make logical sense!).

Also, are the lights driven off the internal clock, or is there a light sensor?

I imagine the lights are disabled when it's daylight (because the effect would be less dramatic)? or are they always on?

To me, personally, that feature could get annoying after a while.

Great video! Thanks. I just bought this phone and am loving it - just wanted to find out a bit more about it, this helped!

By Anonymous kristarella , at Tue Nov 20, 02:44:00 PM PST

**scott - there's no sound with the UI or menu.

**scott - the lights can be disabled but not if you're using a FL theme.

**anonymous - yes the day and night menu is pre-installed.

**kristarella - cool.

I just bought the s500i and it seems my menu isn't flash lite, it stays with the default icons whilst the background changes. I was wondering if I had to update something or enable an option to enable flash lite menu icons

bill, how comes i havent got the psp menu installed on my phone and how can i get it? please could you get back to me please thanks

By Anonymous Adnan , at Wed Dec 19, 05:34:00 AM PST

when you say "PSP menu" do you mean the theme that's called "day and night". It's a horizontal scroller of the menu icons.

By Blogger Bill , at Wed Dec 19, 09:29:00 AM PST

ive got the theme day and night on my s500i but when i set the theme i still get the 12 grid menu not the psp menu
do you know how comes???

By Anonymous Adnan , at Thu Dec 20, 05:51:00 AM PST

Adnan - not sure why you still see the 12 grid menu. Try selecting other themes and setting them. Make sure you're actually setting the theme and the phone gives you a confirmation prompt that it's been set.
